What is Ceramic Coating?
It's a liquid polymer that is manually applied by hand on the outside of a vehicle. This is an extra coating that will bond on top of the factory clear coat of the vehicle.
Instead of waxing your car, this is the newer alternative and does NOT require re-application every few months. The ceramic coating will create a semi-permanent chemical bond with the vehicle's paint and other exterior surfaces. It does not simply wash away and get broken down easily.
What does it do though?
Ceramic coating protects against UV rays, oxidization, and keeps from fading your vehicle's paint. It's also able to protect against acidic rain, other stains, and keep contaminants off your paint.
Also just like car wax, it is hydrophobic and water will bead on the surface and slide off the exterior (but not completely). Therefore, contaminants like filth and grime has a harder time sticking on your car and can be removed easily.
Perhaps not as much as a traditional car wax, it will increase the reflective properties of the paint and clear coat, causing greater depth and clarity aesthetically.
Even though the ceramic coating is seen as a wonder coating in some people's eyes, it still doesn't make your car invincible. To elaborate, ceramic coating CANNOT:
